Booked my Eurostar ticket

I’m taking the Eurostar from Paris to London, at a cost of $120 round-trip. Not too shabby. The train from London to Bath Spa is ₤31.50, or around $50. Return to London from Taunton is ₤42, about $68. Ouch. I can’t check fares for my actual dates yet, so maybe prices will go down. I do know which trains I want to take, and I’ve set a calendar reminder to check for trains at the appointed time. Now I just have to get my flights squared away and I’ll be set. At least my travel will be set; I still have to settle my account with the Alliance Française and finish paying for my apartment. But with every day that passes, I’m getting that tingling feeling of anticipation.

Planes vs. trains

So, I was thinking about cheap flights from Paris to England, as my dear friend Louise is going to be celebrating her 50th birthday at the end of June 2013, right before my classes start in Paris. Easy Jet was about $110 round-trip, which is a pretty decent price. But I’m now thinking of taking the EuroStar train, which gets me from Paris to London in about two-and-a-half hours, at a cost of about $170. I’d then have to take another train from London to Bath, where Louise lives. I’d have to take a coach and train from the airport in Bristol to get to Bath if I flew. I need to cogitate on how long it takes from Gare du Nord to Charles de Gaulle airport, the flight, then the other travel times to Bath, versus the time it would take from Paris-London-Bath. I’m not totally chuffed about the long tunnel ride, as I’m a bit claustrophobic, but I think I’ll be fine. Any thoughts on one versus the other?
